We fixed an issue that made images and other media “blink” while being uploaded. Presto, no more disappearing act.

Version 24.1
You’ll now see a notification when you’re working offline. Media uploads to image blocks will also pause when your internet connection cuts out, then resume when you reconnect.
As an added bonus, when you manually retry a failed media upload, the app will retry all other failed media uploads in your post. Now that’s efficient.
When you select a custom gradient in the block editor, there’s now an indicator to show your chosen color.
Scrolling through your images on the Site Media details screen will make them load ahead of time for a faster experience. Or maybe they were there all along.
We added support for higher-resolution thumbnails, GIF and video playback, documents, and other file previews. (homer-simpson-woohoo.gif)
We switched up the publishing flow to give you clearer instructions. Users with the “Contributor” role will see the “Submit for Review” action instead of “Publish.” You can also trash draft posts and deleted posts without having to confirm.
There’s now a “Share” action in the site context menu so you can share your site with others.
Finally, because we live for the applause, we improved the in-app rating prompt. You’ll be asked to leave a review if you’re happy with the app, or given a feedback form if you feel the app needs work. Feedback is how we get better, so feel free to share yours!

Version 24.0.1
When you’re editing text blocks in the editor, your device’s keyboard will no longer disappear mid-edit. The editor will also scroll directly to a new block when you add it. Write away, friend.
Miss logging in with your security keys? Not anymore—we’ve re-enabled security keys for two-factor authentication during login. The only one getting into your account is you.
Finally, we tackled several rare (and not-so-rare) problems that were causing app crashes. These issues were mostly related to editing tags and categories, using duplicate tags, deleting posts, and editing deleted posts. All in a day’s work.

Version 23.9.1
We updated the classic editor with new media pickers for Photos and Site Media. Don’t worry, you can still upload images, videos, and more to your site.
Speaking of media types—you can now add media filters to the Site Media screen. If you’re using an iPhone, you’ll notice the new aspect ratio mode, too. Both options are available when you tap the title menu.
Finally, we fixed the broken compliance pop-up that appears while you’re checking stats during the onboarding process. Sweet.

Version 23.8.1
We added an Optimize Images setting so newly uploaded images are optimal size and quality by default. You can also delete images, videos, and other media in the Media screen in My Sites.
Still want more media support? You’re in luck: thumbnails and original images now load faster in the Site Media screen, and GIF thumbnails are properly animated. We also added buttons so you can select and deselect your media files in preview mode.
In the block editor, you’ll only see the “ungroup” option for nested blocks if those blocks actually support it. Oh, and we added a native photo picker to the story editor.
We fixed the media item details screen for iPad users. We also squashed a bug on the Stats screen, so sites now open when you click their URLs.
Finally, your list of site pages now loads faster. Yes, even when your site has hundreds of pages. And yes, we’re just that good.

Version 23.7.1
Buckle up, this update’s a doozy. Let’s start with Site Media.
- We updated the Site Media screen design with better menus, file selection and sharing, and more. It even runs faster—no more jerky GIFs or stalled-out videos.
- You can use the pan gesture to select multiple media files at once. It’s also easier to swipe from one photo to another, change metadata, and delete items.
- On iPad, you can switch between square image previews and aspect ratio.
- We fixed issues with blank placeholder images, incorrect messages, document sharing, and occasional crashes.
We’re not done yet. We also made big changes to Posts & Pages.
- The Posts & Pages screen got a facelift with clean, simple display options.
- Use more advanced search features, like author and tag filters, to find the content you’d like to edit. Search also works across all authors (unless, of course, you want content from one specific person.)
- Use swipe actions to view, share, or delete posts and pages. Sweet.
- The context menu now lets you access comments, settings, and other actions for a post or page.
- We fixed issues with page refreshes and visibility, as well as a handful of crashes.
Finally, we fixed a handful of pesky problems across the app.
- The app now recognizes when you’ve finished uploading a GIF. (monty-burns-excellent.gif)
- “Hidden” posts now have a better description for their privacy status.
- The reader now scrolls to the top when you tap the status bar. Up, up, and away.
- The Menus screen properly creates menu items based on top-level pages.
- We fixed a crash related to using text colors in older site themes.
- You shouldn’t run into any errors when you paste deeply nested content. Much like onions, ogres, cakes, or parfaits, your content can have many layers.

Version 23.6
When you move a post to the trash, you’ll now see a confirmation message appear at the bottom of the screen.
We made some changes to the block editor.
- Inactive social icons and Synced Pattern titles are no longer invisible in block-based themes using dark mode. Good try, fellas, but you’re not as ninja as you think.
- In the Classic editor, you can now convert your content into blocks with the click of a button.
Finally, we squashed a mini-swarm of bugs.
- You shouldn’t run into any login issues if you enter the wrong site address on the first try.
- Incorrect HTML tags won’t show up in your post titles—you’ll only see plain text.
- We removed extra controls in the two-factor authentication process that added unnecessary security measures. Logging in is still safe, but now it comes with fewer headaches.

Version 23.5
In the block editor, you can now split or exit a formatted block by pressing the “enter” key three times. The left-hand border is always visible for quote blocks, too. And you can quote us on that.
We also squashed a handful of bugs.
- We fixed a code issue in blogging prompt settings that caused the app to crash.
- During the signup process, you won’t end up in the reader by accident.
- Creating a .com site? You should no longer see two overlays after completing the signup process. One and done.

Version 23.4
We’ve been squashing bugs! (It was a lot cleaner than it sounds.)
- You can now embed URLs from X without getting a broken link. Pretty X-cellent, if you ask us.
- Speaking of links—when you use an invalid media URL, the app will now display an error message instead of crashing. Better, right?
- Contributors will now see the correct pop-up when submitting posts for review. Phew.
- We fixed a problem where non-admin users could see the plugin menu for their site. Out of sight, out of mind.
- In the block editor, the app will no longer crash when you nest too many blocks within blocks… within blocks… you get the idea. Take that, Inception.

Version 23.2.2
We added everyone’s favorite native media picker, which you’ll recognize from your Apple Photos app. Filter by different media types and search for albums and photos, no matter how many there are. That’s good news for your 3,591 cat photos.
We moved the “Me” button away from the top corner and made a few small design tweaks. The Social Link block also includes an outline so you can see when it’s selected.
We removed the “New Photo Post” shortcut in the app to create a shorter, clearer menu. So long, farewell.
Finally, we squashed a few bugs.
- You can now take a photo within the app and upload it to your site, even if you haven’t given the app full access to your photos.
- Errors now process and display properly when you run into trouble while uploading media.
- The Pages list shouldn’t crash anymore if your authentication token is invalid.
- When you’re working in the block editor, the app should no longer crash when you transform a nested Columns block into a Group block.

Version 23.0 is here! Do we look older?
To celebrate, we made some Gallery block updates in the block editor.
- We removed the visual gap that appears between selected gallery blocks and the toolbar.
- The gallery caption button is no longer visible on mobile devices.
- The correct gallery block will stay selected while you’re adding media.
We also squashed several bugs in the media picker.
- Your screen won’t flash anymore when you open the media picker.
- Media files have stopped rearranging themselves and will now behave.
- The image count no longer includes other media types.
- Thumbnail image sizes are now smaller. Faster loading, less memory—what’s not to love?
Finally, the app should no longer crash when you update a post. (But wear a helmet anyway. Safety first.)

We made some big changes to the block editor, including styles, colors, and icons. You’ll also find more buttons and block options in the header toolbar, including the undo and redo buttons. That’s right, you now have more tools than Batman’s utility belt.
While we were at it, we plugged a few memory leaks and solved an issue where the app wouldn’t work for some users after opening.

Version 22.7
We fixed an issue with the home screen’s “Work on a draft post” card. The app will no longer crash when you access drafts while they’re in the middle of uploading.
We also solved a couple of problems in the block editor.
- Right on—image blocks now display the correct aspect ratio, whether or not the image has a set width and height.
- When you’re dictating text, the cursor’s position will stay where it’s supposed to—no more jumping around. Keep calm and dictate on.

We removed a bug in devices running iOS 16 or later, where typing in the block editor while dictating caused the dictated text to be lost. Phew.
Locked and loaded—there’s now a lock icon for disabled cells in the block editor so you know when they aren’t in use.
Finally, we updated the placeholder text for VideoPress videos that don’t belong to your site. (Hopefully they don’t feel left out.)

If your site uses a block-based theme, you can now edit your site’s home page directly from the Pages list. Raised hands emoji.
We solved an issue around setting links to open in a new tab. When typing text after this link, you can now undo and redo the text without any issues.
Tap-to-edit is now available for all nested block types—no more tapping through every nesting level to reach a specific piece of content.
Speaking of nesting, we also fixed a bug where merging a list item into a paragraph would remove any nested text for that list item.
Finally, we’ve updated the design of disabled cells so it’s easier to tell when a cell isn’t in use.

We fixed a bug in the app’s Stats section—when you’re looking at lists of search engines that have sent visitors to your site, you can now see nested results, just like you would in your browser.
Hitting the @ key when you’re writing a comment still brings up a list of suggested users you might like to tag, but now those users are split into groups. If you’re responding to a parent comment, the comment’s author appears at the top of the list, right next to the post’s author.
Now that the app supports higher-resolution image previews, we bumped up the size of theme screenshots in the site theme picker. No more pixellation, only pixel perfection.
Finally, no more zeroes in your weekly roundup—if you don’t get any post comments or likes this week, we won’t include that number in your device notifications. Positive vibes only.

You can now upload videos of any length to self-hosted sites—the only limit is your own imagination. (Oh, and the 2 GB file size limit, we guess.)
When you Follow Conversation in Reader post cards and post details, in-app notifications are now opt-out rather than opt-in.
We replaced the quick-start prompt when you log in as an existing user. Now you can tell us what you’d like to focus on and enable notifications for things like site traffic, new followers, and other milestones. Cue confetti.
Ready for the grand tour? We made some tweaks to the Stats and Reader tours in the Quick Start section. Now you can move through the tours more smoothly and get more pointers and messages as you go.
We also made some sweet, sweet changes to the Block Editor.
- You can now adjust Featured Image settings for any posts in a Latest Post block.
- You’ll see the correct notices when you’re fast-switching between HTML and Visual mode.
- Media previews are no longer cut off when you edit a URL in an Embed block.
- If you’re using an iPad with an external keyboard, you’ll no longer see extra space between the toolbar and the bottom of the screen. Mind the gap.

May 2, 2022 Version 19.7
We made a small but mighty change to the block editor: the “Add Block” button is more visible when you first open the editor with no blocks selected. We also removed one of three error notifications when a media or audio block fails to upload—it felt like overkill.
You’ll hear some accessibility tweaks in the VoiceOver experience when you’re rearranging menu items. Instructions and notices are clearer, and the menu hierarchy makes more sense out loud.
We added a new screen to the site creation process where you can enter your site’s intent. We tested this screen with a small group of users, and we think you’ll like it, too.
Web previews won’t cut off bottom-of-the-screen notifications when your browser toolbar is visible.
What’s in a name? Well, if your site has one, you’ll see it in the My Site navigation title.
When you swipe left on a comment in your Notifications, you won’t see the “Trash” option anymore. Instead you’ll see “Unapprove Comment” and “Approve Comment.” We approve.

Big news, site fans—your My Site screen just got better. You’ll now see two new tabs you can switch between: Site Menu and Home.
The Home tab also contains handy cards with more information about your site, including drafts, scheduled posts, and today’s stats. Or, if you’re in a hurry, you can easily head over to another section of the app.
We’re all about clear communication. That’s why we’ve added new error text to the photo upload process, just in case you try to upload a photo from your device without giving the app photo permission first.
Finally, when in-app notices pop up, they now fade out more smoothly when you don’t need them anymore. Exit stage left.

We updated Comment Notifications with a spiffy new look and feel. (You might recognize it from My Site Comments!) The Quick Start design in your site menu and dashboard is rocking a new look, too.
When you’re creating a new site and entering the domain name, you should now see a more accurate error message if you try to use non-English characters that aren’t letters or numbers. We also tweaked the upload error text in media upload blocks.
Not sure if you’re looking at an image or a GIF in your Image block? No need to wonder anymore—animated GIFs now come with a GIF badge.
We also made a few bug fixes while we were under the hood.
- Good news for all those orphan comments out there—we squashed a bug where comment replies got lost after their parent comments were unapproved.
- When you switch between sites on an iPad, you won’t switch between sidebar nav items, too. You’ll be looking at the same menu item you left on the previous site.
- Block setting changes to ordered lists now appear in the editor, not just in Preview.
- We fixed a keyboard issue in the WP.com account creation process. If you start entering a magic link password and change your mind, you can dismiss the keyboard and move on with your day.

Color us excited—support for multiple color palettes is here! Add Theme and Default color and gradient palettes, or create your own Custom palette with your favorite shades. We also fixed an issue that caused theme colors not to appear and current theme data not to refresh.
For devices using right-to-left languages, we updated icon, button, and text positioning for the “Choose a Domain” screen in the site creation process. Alright, alright.
Want to see rich media like images and .gifs in your device’s push notifications? Just press and hold the notification to open a preview.
We made some tweaks to Weekly Roundup notifications to make sure they’re showing up once you’ve enabled them. Giddyup!
Finally, we added a few fixes on the Insight screen that’ll help speed things up. We also squashed a bug that bolded auto-corrected words in content block headings.

Version 19.2.1
With this latest version of WordPress, we made some design changes to help make your user experience even better.
- Text blocks in the block editor now adjust along with the text as you change the font size and line height for block themes.
- We redesigned some of the screens in the app, including My Site. Looking fresh!
- We love a clean inbox, so we added a button that lets you mark all filtered notifications as read.
- In the site tab’s Configure > People menu, we added an email filter that allows you to see, learn more about, and even remove email followers.
- In threaded comments, we removed the Share icon and instead added the ability to moderate comments within a thread.
- If you change the media in an Image block that’s also used as a post’s Featured Image, you’ll see a prompt asking if you’d like to replace the Featured Image while you’re at it.
- We improved the Stats navigation so you can move between Days and Insights more easily. You can also create new stat cards directly from the Stats screen using our new navigation icon.
We also dealt with a handful of pesky bugs in our site startup process.
- We fixed a bug in the site creation process that assigned the wrong time zone to the site. This caused some trouble with scheduled posts. But not to worry—any scheduled posts will now publish on time, at the right time.
- Quick Start no longer appears for users logging in to a self-hosted, non-Jetpack site, even after they say “no thanks” to the Quick Start prompt. Hard pass on that one.
- When you’re choosing a design or layout during site creation, the checkbox won’t flicker anymore when you switch between options.

Feb 14, 2022 Version 19.1.1
We solved a problem where self-hosted sites would crash while trying to upload media without an Internet connection. Big yikes, but big fix.
Speaking of media, we know you might have given the app limited access to your media library. No big deal, but we added a prompt to the media picker in case you want to change your settings and allow more access. The prompt even comes in Dynamic Type for easy reading.
We also made VoiceOver and Dynamic Type more accurate on Activity Log and Schedule Post calendars. We’re happy to report that this improves the user experience for folks who need better visual accessibility.
Big news for Comments: you can now follow a conversation using a button in the Comments header.
We made some useful updates to the Block Editor.
- We solved an issue where buttons weren’t justifying left, right, or center in the Buttons block.
- We added translation for color settings in Cover blocks.
- Selecting an image will no longer show you a video thumbnail, and vice versa.
- We hid the help button in the bottom right of the unsupported block editor to avoid confusion.
- When you’re using different text and background colors in text blocks, you’ll get a notification if the color combo might make it hard for some people to read.
- We fixed a handful of edge case problems when changing the color of non-selected text.
We also solved a few smaller issues and crashes.
- Weekly roundup notifications weren’t always being displayed for all users, but now they are.
- The username selection screen is no longer loading twice.
- When you connect your Facebook account to Publicize, you’ll now be logged in successfully.
- Images with a copyright symbol in the file name will now upload or appear in the Share Sheet properly.
Last but not least, we improved error messages on the login screen for self-hosted websites.

What time is it? Our brand-new time zone selection screen knows. Get a suggested time zone based on your device and improve search while you’re at it.
If you’re using a free plan, video uploads are now limited to five minutes per file. Don’t worry, that won’t affect any videos you’ve already uploaded to your site.
We’ve also made some changes to the block editor:
- We solved translation issues that caused some user interface elements (like text alignment information and the block editor modal window) to only appear in English.
- We added language translation for Jetpack and Layout Grid blocks.
- We fixed a bug that would reset text formatting to default after hitting backspace. Bold on, friends.
- Multi-line block titles are now center-aligned in the inserter menu.
Finally, the “Share WordPress with a friend” row is back where it belongs on the Me screen. Reunited and it feels so good.

New year, new look! We updated comment threads with a shiny new design for author labels, accessory and share buttons, and row and reply highlighting. We also made a few updates to the Block Editor.
- When you’re editing Paragraph blocks, you can highlight specific text in any color you’d like.
- Brand-new Gallery blocks will default to the new design. You can also auto-convert any old galleries to the new format without a hitch.
- The editor now auto-scrolls, so you can always see what you’re typing. No more disappearing text, no more guesswork.
- You’ll now see a Comments snippet displayed after your post content in the Reader. This gives you a quick sample of any comments you’ve received and helps you join the conversation faster.
- We squashed a bug where the background color wasn’t showing up for pre-formatted blocks on sites that use standard themes.

Good news, everyone—we fixed app crashes caused by uploading images while offline, deleting media, or seeing details for "Like" notifications.
We made some big changes to the block editor so you can keep calm and publish on:
- When you open the settings for a Button or Image block linked to a URL, the editor won't auto-populate a URL from your clipboard anymore. You'll now see a "Link To" suggestion so you can use the clipboard URL or enter a different one.
- Create a Gallery block and your device's media options will automatically open, making it easier for you to add your images.
- Adding a new block? If your device is set to a language other than English, the tabs in the inserter menu will now match your set language.
- When you're using the Embed block, you won't see the "Edit" action in the toolbar. You can now change the URL by going into Block Settings instead.
- In the post editor, switching from HTML mode to Visual mode will bring up a compact notice telling you about the switch.
- You might have noticed your font size changing on its own in Media and Text blocks. We squashed the bug that was causing it.
New to WordPress? Not to worry. Our login process makes it easier than ever to create and start managing your site.
We also added a new About screen so you can rate and share the app (hint, hint), visit our Twitter profile and blog, view our other apps, and more.

Two-step authentication now comes with extra security. You'll need to unlock your device to approve or deny notifications.
We expanded the “Link To” setting for the image block to include “Media File” and “Attachment Page” options alongside the preexisting “Custom URL” option.
We fixed an issue that made the interface crash when users copied and pasted lists from Microsoft Word.
When you head over to My Site > Comments, you'll see a fresh look and even fresher comment details, including:
- A sneak peek of the post title or parent comment, depending on whether the author left a comment on the post or replied to an existing comment.
- Rich content so you can see each comment just as the author wrote it.
- A share button for approved comments.
- Users with Administrator or Editor roles can see the comment authors’ email and IP addresses.
- Tappable web address to visit the author's URL (instead of their avatar image).
Finally, we updated the UI for the Reply view, both minimized and fullscreen. Looking sharp!

- You can now highlight text using the "mark" HTML tag, as well as change the text and background color of the Search block button. Shiny!
- We've hidden HTML tags in post titles when you're checking out your stats.
- We've improved Reader Discovery – showing you new things to read, while lending a helping hand to sites with low traffic. Win-win.
- If you're part of a comment thread, you can keep track of it through in-app notifications, not just your email inbox.
- Speaking of comments, we heard that some might be missing when viewing comments from the Reader. Don't worry – we found and fixed the problem.
- The Help screen used to break out of its box when rotated from portrait to landscape and back to portrait, but now it's staying put.
- We fixed more cases where embed blocks would show "unable to display content", allowing you to see all of your content.

Plus, the editor automatically detects embeddable URLs you paste into an empty paragraph. Alongside these new features, we fixed an issue where some embedded URLs could not be edited and adjusted the preview cut-off so that you’ll always see the full embedded content.
Speaking of blocks, you can now customize the text and background color in the Pullquote and Preformatted blocks.
Need help reaching more readers? The new Publicize and Blogging Reminder nudges will help you stick to a consistent publishing schedule.
Finally, we improved support for larger text sizes when choosing a homepage or page layout, fixed the site comments list not refreshing on certain occasions, and polished the pre-publishing bottom sheet header.

We fixed an issue with the gallery block, so now your images will still be added if you close the post while they are uploading.
But, if you are still having problems, asking for help is even easier. You can do it right inside the editor screen: Just tap the 3-dot menu button, select “Help & Support”, then “Contact Support.”
Lastly, we fixed an issue where the notification screen was occasionally showing the wrong avatar when you are mentioned in a comment — your chosen image will now be proudly displayed!

- Embed block updates: We’ve enabled WordPress embed previews, as well as embeds for Instagram and Vimeo content. For some media, you may successfully embed a URL but cannot preview the content; in these instances, you will see a “No preview available” message. In cases when you are unable to embed media, you will now see a “Retry” option to embed the content again, and an alternate option to convert it to a link instead.
- Various improvements: We’ve streamlined your My Site menu, changing “Blog Posts” to “Posts” and “Site Pages” to “Pages.” (This has not affected your post and page content — we promise!) You will also notice that you can now publish a page via the app’s Share Extension feature.
- Bug fixes: We addressed an issue in the Reader that prevented you from removing Saved posts, and also fixed a bug that prevented you from following a conversation by email through a post’s comments. We also fixed an editor issue when displaying images.

We have made a couple of handy tweaks to the Block editor. The Embed block now gives you a sneak preview when you add something from YouTube or Twitter (more providers to come). Also, when you go to insert a block and nothing is found, there is now a no results view.
- If you go to Post Settings > Post Format, you will find the “Standard” option still at the top, but the other options are now neatly alphabetized below. (Options will vary with themes!)
- And one more quick one: Refreshing your site is now super easy — just pull to refresh from the My Site screen!

Enjoying the Blogging Reminders tool? We’ve added a new feature that lets you choose a specific time to receive a notification.
Need to close your account? (We hope you never leave us!) But if needed, you now have the ability to do so in your Account Settings.
Geotagging posts is no longer supported on the web, so we’ve removed the Location option under Post Settings.

You can now set or remove a featured image for a post from the image block’s settings. And in case you forget, a new ‘featured’ banner highlights your current selection.
Also on the design front, comments and notifications now have a unified look and feel. And when it comes to choosing a domain or design for your site, headings have been refined for accessibility on devices set to use larger text sizes.
When we let you know you’ve published a post with an in-app notice, you’ll now see any ampersands in your title displayed in their full, non-HTML-entity glory.
Last but not least, we’ve smoothed a bump in the road when recovering from invalidated authentication tokens.

Those of you with self-hosted sites that do not use Jetpack can now manage (install, uninstall, activate, and deactivate) their plugins.
The Block editor has a shiny new block Layout grid, and while we were digging around in the editor code, we also tweaked the code for our tablet-using friends. The pesky inserter button tablet view issue in the Block editor has now been fixed.
Want to subscribe to conversations by email from Reader lists and articles? Good because we just added that ability too!

With 17.6, you can add the Audio Block to any WordPress.com site, whatever plan you’re on – including the Free Plan. The Audio Block makes it easy to add podcasts, music, and sound files to your posts and pages.
In the Reader, you’ll now see a count and summary of Likes added to every post. If that’s not enough Likes in your life, tap the summary and you’ll be able to see the full list.
We’ve been hard at work wrangling UX improvements, too:
When you assign a parent page to a page without a title, you’ll now see a ‘(no title)’ placeholder instead of a blank line, giving you a gentle nudge to name the page.
You’ve never been able to edit Post Archive pages because they’re automatically generated. In 17.6, you won’t be able to open them in the editor, either, saving you a wasted trip.
We’ve also been working on fixing things:
We took care of some notices that had been overlapping the ActionSheet, including one that displays Site Icon controls, another displaying the QuickStart Removal, and a third that displays More Actions in the editor.
Last up, we squashed a bug that sometimes caused the app to crash during comment moderation and another to fix a login error for WordPress.org sites to show inline.
That’s all for 17.6. See you in 17.7!

What’s new in WordPress release 17.5?
Reusable blocks are here! Create content once, save your block, and reuse it over and over again in any posts or pages. In 17.5, you’ll find reusable blocks ready to go in the block inserter menu.
If tapping to add new blocks is a menu tap too far, 17.5 lets you add them with a slash command right from the editor. Add a forward slash as you’re crafting your post or page, start tapping in the name of the block, and you’re all set. No menus necessary.
Audio gets some love, too. Got a link for that audio file? In 17.5 just paste your URL into the Audio Block, and WordPress will pull it into your post.
Like notifications also got some extra sparkle in 17.5. You’ll now be able to see exactly who liked every post and comment on your site as soon as they roll in.
We’ve also been hard at work bug-wrangling. Here’s what we fixed:
Screen readers can now select the stepper cell in the block editor.
We made sure that large text doesn’t become ENORMOUS text, whatever font you’re using. Large text support in the blog details header of the My Sites screen has also been improved.
Finally, item selection and fixed scrolling in the Plugins directory are now behaving themselves, and the Noticons font will no longer crash the app in rich notifications.

On sites with more than one author, you’ll now be able to switch the author assigned to any Post or Page.
You can now authenticate login requests while you're using the app.
Finally, we fixed a bug with the Quick Start tour. When you follow a site from the reader, the Quick Start checklist will now update your progress (instead of remaining unchecked.)

May 17, 2021 Version 17.3
What’s new in WordPress release 17.3:
New block alert! With the Search block, you can now add a search function onto any page or post on your site. We’ve also simplified the process for inserting media while using the Image, Video, Gallery, File, and Audio blocks.
We addressed a few issues where your post content was not behaving as expected! Unwanted posts, for example, were sometimes converting into Classic content. This unexpected behavior occurred when deleting a post and then selecting Undo, and also when trashing a post. We also fixed an issue where your restored posts remained in your list of published posts even though they had been converted to drafts. (Apparently, sometimes your posts have minds of their own!) We’re pleased to say that all these issues have been fixed.
Overall, the team kept busy for this release, and we made various other improvements, including a styling fix on the Change Username page so people would no longer be stuck on the screen, and updating the comments experience so you can filter them to show the most recent unreplied comments from other users. We also squashed several translation bugs on various screens, and tweaked colors in the app where necessary.

When creating a site, you can now select categories to help you better search for and identify designs you may like. You can also choose single-page site designs.
In the Reader, we’ve made updates to improve the content discovery experience. You will now see related content in your feed and a redesigned recommended topics section in your Discover tab. There’s also a new way to discover topics under the Manage setting.

Love keeping track of your stats? We’ve added support for new All Time Widgets, which display your site’s All Time stats on the Home Screen of your iOS 14 device.
You can now set anchors in the Heading block to create page jumps in your content. We’ve made other updates, like improvements to Reusable blocks and blocks you insert just once in your posts, like the More block.
Creating a site on the app keeps getting better. When building a homepage, you can preview how a design looks on a mobile, tablet, or desktop screen. You can also now choose a .blog subdomain for your site.

Here’s what’s new in our latest release:
The block editor: You can now insert a File block into a post or page, which places a download button for files like documents. An update to the Gallery block also fixed an uploading issue when your editor was closed.
Site creation: When building pages on your site, the page layout options are now easier to see and select.
Post creation: Want to quickly duplicate a post? You can now do so from your Posts List.
The Reader: Do you use P2, a tool for team and group collaboration? You can read and follow P2 sites in a newly added stream.

We’re pleased to announce some exciting changes to the WordPress mobile app. When you create a site, you’ll have the option to pick a homepage design right away. We’ve also made it easier to set the dimensions of cover images and columns, and the Button and Social Icon blocks now have a link picker. We fixed bugs we know were—yes—bugging you, including one where @-mentions weren’t working on WP.com sites with plugins enabled, and another where “tel:” and “mailto:” links on contact pages weren’t launching properly.

All About Jetpack: Access all of your Jetpack features quickly and easily, including your stats, activity log, and settings.
Getting Help & Support: We fixed a few issues that occurred if you tried to contact our support team. When contacting us, you can now include non-alpha characters, and your app will no longer crash when entering your email address.
Reader Updates: We also fixed a display issue in the Reader, and comments are no longer italicized by default.

- Choose from a variety of predesigned page templates when you create a new page on a Gutenberg-enabled site.
- Create posts and pages right from the posts and pages list with the ever-present action button.
- Fixed an issue that caused refresh control to appear on top of the list of sites.

Block editor improvements:
On Jetpack sites, you can now edit unsupported blocks by enabling Jetpack SSO from the missing block alert. Use the handy link picker to add URLs to posts. We’ve also increased the size of the tap target on the primary action on unsupported blocks.
Fixes:
Zapped bugs that caused the page editor to become an invisible overlay and eliminated duplicate views generated when requesting a login link. In the Reader, tapping a link with an anchor now works as expected.

Take a peek at what’s new in this release:
- Support for full-width and wide alignment for the Group, Cover, and Image blocks (with support for more blocks to come).
- Love rounded corners on your images? We’ve also added support for the Rounded style in the Image block.
- Some people may have experienced a misbehaving toolbar when adding a new block, but we’ve fixed this issue.
- We also noticed that in Image Preview, images were not positioned correctly after changing device orientation, but this has been addressed, too.
- We resolved a few other issues around signup and login, including a username display issue after signing up with Apple, and an incorrect error message that displayed when you reach a maximum number of failed login attempts.

Your Reader experience can now be tailored just for you — with a new Discover feed reflecting your chosen interests.
Block settings in the Block Editor now immediately reflect any changes made in the menu sliders.
Improved signup and login experience — both with directing the user on the steps and connecting a self-hosted site.
There is also a brand new way to login with the iCloud Keychain feature — a password manager that remembers your WP.com accounts and passwords.
Don’t miss anything! You can now follow conversations on P2 sites.
We have also reduced memory usage when marking up an image, so media editing won’t cause a crash.

New! Username @mentions now auto-complete in the Block Editor for WordPress.com and Jetpack sites. Type the “@” character to see a pop-up displaying usernames and take your pick! We’re making improvements block by block: In this version, we’ve added support for media editing in the Cover block and fixed a Heading block bug where a heading with a link and string formatting displayed a pesky white shadow in dark mode. Lastly, site headings in the WordPress.com Reader now have a modern and spiffy new look.

We’ve been asking you to read a lot lately, so have a breather with v15.3. We’ve got three great changes that are quick to explain.
1. All blocks now have copy, cut, paste, and duplicate options.
2. Some kinds of content are unsupported by the block editor (for technical reasons, not because we don’t care about their dreams). That is, you can add and edit it, but it doesn’t map neatly to an existing block. Now you can individually edit unsupported blocks on a separate screen in the app, using the same tools available the full web editor. (Note: this isn’t yet available for self-hosted sites, or that sites that default to the classic editor.)
3. Ghost Effect! It sounds like a straight-to-video Nicolas Cage movie. It’s actually a nice visual touch we added to the editor that displays shaded areas to let you know when and where content is loading.

No, your mind is not playing tricks on you — the Reader looks much easier on the eyes. That’s because we made a lot of fixes in how things look when you’re reading a post. These fixes include a lot of little things like spacing, positioning, and sizing, which all add up to a much more pleasant experience. Plus, the navigation bar and toolbar disappear and reappear so smoothly it’s like magic! Wouldn’t you agree that we all need a little magic in our lives right now?
We know that coming up with a title for your site can be hard and that humans can be indecisive and fickle, which is why we’ve made it so that the title of your site can now be changed by tapping on the title in the site detail screen. And if you’ve recently come up with a brilliant name for a new site, there’s now a new Quick Start task to set a title for any new sites you want to start.
If you have an eye for color, we’ve added support in the Block editor for customizing the gradient type and angle in Button and Cover blocks. And if you’re keeping track of how many blocks you’re using and how much you’re typing, we’re now displaying metric information for block, word, and character counts.
Last and not least, we fixed a pesky crash that resulted from navigating to the Block editor too quickly after logging out and logging immediately back in. Now you can feel free to log in and out with abandon!
version 15.0.1

As usual, there are lots of improvements in the block editor. Trash icon you use to remove blocks is now in a menu reachable by tapping the ellipsis button in the block toolbar. We also added support for overlay colors in the Cover block, support for radial gradients in Button and Cover blocks, enter/exit animation in the Floating Toolbar, and a tooltip for page template selection buttons. And now the block toolbar collapses if the block is narrower than the toolbar.
We also made lots of fixes, for a cleaner block editor experience.
Media upload will display a “retry” message when there’s no connection (instead of freezing), undo/redo work more reliably for both blocks and text, we corrected a merging issue with text blocks, and we corrected the button alignment in page templates.
We've added a new setting that allows you to change your homepage and posts page from site settings.
Finally, we dealt with a Gravatar issue that got you stuck in the photo editing screen when you tried to take a new photo, and made some UI updates (including a quick bug fix) in the Reader.

This is just to say: we have updated the block editor that is in your app. Give a warm WordPress welcome to the newest block, Verse! Poets, lets see what you have. We’ll lead by example:
- ’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did move the trash icon for removing blocks to a new menu — find it by tapping the ellipsis button in the block toolbar
- Hope is the thing with feathers, and media uploads are the things no longer freeze when you’re offline. Now, a retry message will appear instead.
- When I am an old woman I shall wear purple, with a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me. And I will be able to customize my Cover block accordingly, because now there’s support for changing overlay colors.
- Never send to know for whom the bell tolls: it tolls for the enter/exit animation we added to the Floating Toolbar,
- Shall I compare thee to a collapsing block toolbar? Because the block toolbar collapses if the block is narrower than than the toolbar content, and it’s pretty great.
- Do I dare disturb the universe? In a minute there is time for decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse, especially now that undo and redo work more consistently for both blocks and text.
- I met a traveller from an antique land who added tooltips for page template selection buttons to the block editor. (Yeah, we thought it was odd, too.)
- O Captain, my captain, rise up and fix the bug causing you to get stuck in the photo editing screen when taking a Gravatar photo. (Great news, we did!)
- Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. Some say it will end when you can’t merge text blocks that have active formatting (bold, italic, strike, link). Thank goodness we fixed that bug, then.
- I think that I shall never see a misaligned button in page templates. Which is correct, because that bug was also fixed.
- There once was a man from Nantucket who added support for displaying radial gradients in the Button and Cover blocks.
And then, finally
We updated card design
In the Reader. Fin.
(And by the way: if you can identify all the poems or poetic style referenced here and tweet @WordPressiOS with your answers, there’s a mobile-friendly WordPress goody bag in it for the first three correct responses. See, it pays to read release notes to the end!)

App organization overhaul: We’ve been paying close attention to how you use the app, in a totally non-creepy way, and made some changes that’ll let you find what you need faster:
Want to start a new post or page? Tap the big pink button that’s always visible in the My Sites tab.
Want to edit your profile? Look in the upper right corner, aka “the place where you always expected your profile to be.”
Want to find something to read? The Reader tab has a revamped layout for more intuitive searching and filtering.
The Block editor, always: There’s a new Pullquote block, for when you want to highlight quotes with more visual emphasis than the regular Quote block has — it’s like a Quote block with a really great hat. Page templates got an update to make use of the newest blocks, and we fixed up icons in a few blocks that weren’t displaying quite right in RTL mode.
The Button block got more color options for background and text; please use them responsibly. And there’s support for superscript and subscript HTML formatting (in the Classic editor, too).
Image annotation: With the new “edit image” feature in the editor, you can draw directly on images. Use this to annotate them to make them more useful for your readers and not to draw rabbit ears on everyone.
One really great bug fix: Sometimes you’d add a Video block and start uploading a video, and the app would crash and you’d think, “Well, I guess the universe is sending me a message about that video.” The universe might be sending you a message, but it’s not about that — that was just a bug in the app, and we fixed it. Upload away; we all want to see.

There’s never been a better time to use the WordPress app to manage your website — use it while hovering in the doorway of your house waiting for a curb-side delivery, in your living room while sitting six feet away from your roommate, or in the bathroom where you go to get a five minute break from your kids. The possibilities are endless, especially since v14.8 packs more features into the Block editor:
- With the new Buttons block, you can add multiple buttons next to one another in the same row — buttons on separate lines are so April 2020.
- The Cover block includes more uploading options for getting pictures from your device to your site.
- If your image files have captions, the Image block will automatically pre-fill them for you. So considerate!
While we were poking around, we fixed a few less-than-ideal things — whitespace around Text blocks getting removed, Quote blocks that didn’t align properly, and buttons in page templates not displaying correctly on the web. You might have called them “bugs;” we call them “gone.” And we gave the screens you see post-login and signup some polish and a new coat of paint, so they look cleaner and feel more consistent with the rest of the app.

The scheduling, tag, and visibility settings now pop up right in the post editor when you tap “Publish” or “Schedule” — fine-tune them, and tap “Publish Now” to complete publication. No more leaving the editor to look for the Post Settings Screen!
The mobile Block editor continues to grow:-
– You’ll find a Columns block and a new Starter Template for blogs.
– The Starter Page Template options no longer obscure your page content.
– We fixed a bug that caused a URL settings box to pop up if you physically moved your device around while previewing Starter Page Templates.
Since an app can never be too fast, too usable, or too clean, we streamlined a few UI things here and there. Will you notice? Probably not, which is the point. And finally, there was a login issue causing account info for self-hosted sites to load incorrectly that’s been taken care of.

If you’re like us, you’re having to rejigger your day to make time for all the intense hand-washing. To help, we streamlined the Site Creation process, removing some intermediate steps. Pick the kind of site you want, enter a domain name, and you’re done. Use some of the time you save to disinfect your phone, too — that thing’s grungy.
To prove that we can still have nice things, even in challenging times, we added more features to the mobile block editor. The Cover block is now available; there are alignment options in the Heading block; and a dropdown toolbar makes alignment easier for Heading, Paragraph, Image, MediaText blocks. And we removed the dimming effect on unselected blocks.
Some of you have phones with casings that fold up and over the screen a little. (If this confuses you, then you’re not one of those people.) The layout of the Notifications screen wasn’t great for y’all, and some text got lost under the phone casing. That’s fixed now.
You know how sometimes you’d try to @-mention someone in a comment, and the app would suggest names and then wouldn’t actually let you select one? What a fun prank that was! Kidding — it was a bug, and we fixed it. We also took care of a few other issues that caused the app to crash when you tried to access the Site Pages screen or use the Quick Action buttons on iPads to get to your blog posts.
(And speaking of pages and posts, now that you can reliably get to those screens: we went ahead and made previews bigger for iPads running iOS 13.)
We like our Dark Mode like we like our coffee: really dark, and without any bugs floating around in it. There were glitches in Light and Dark Modes, and things sometimes went wonky when you switched from one to the other. There are far fewer of those glitches now.
Remember to moisturize after all the hand-washing! Hydrated fingertips are better for swiping and tapping. Stay safe, y’all.

New blocks! Welcome the Latest Posts block, for highlighting your new stuff in posts and pages.
When you create a new page, we’ll show you a few templates — pick one, and we’ll add all the necessary blocks to your page to get you started quickly.
We fixed up a few block editor issues; no more crashes when pasting in HTML content or missing Quote block borders in Dark Mode.
If you scheduled a post to publish in the past, it would display as “scheduled” instead of “published.” That’s fixed, along with an issue where dates displayed incorrectly if your site’s timezone wasn’t the same as your device’s timezone.
We fixed some UI inconsistencies in Dark Mode and with the Reader toolbar.
You can use @-mentions when writing comments in fullscreen mode.
Sometimes Signup and Login Magic Link emails would go to your spam folder, so we added a note to the confirmation screen suggesting that folks check their spam/junk folders if they don’t see the email promptly.
Stay safe, everyone.

Can you spot the secret theme of this release? Hint: it’s blocks!*
First up there are two new blocks available, so let’s put on our finest black turtlenecks and give a warm iOS welcome to the Button and Group blocks.
Second, a few other blocks got a spit shine, so now you can: Change image sizes in image blocks! Use the new upload options in Gallery blocks to add photos from your device! Not worry about that text-wrapping bug in the Shortcode block that cut off part of your content!
Third, we didn’t want pre-existing blocks to feel left out, so we made some enhancements to the general block experience. You’ll see a new toolbar floating above the block you’re editing to make navigating blocks, especially complex ones, easier. There’s also scroll support in the block picker and in block settings.
Fourth, we fixed a few bugs. Adding emoji to a post title no longer adds strong HTML elements to the post title, and Paragraph block alignment is respected when you split the paragraph or read the post’s HTML content. And ordered lists with high numbers were, we will be the first to admit, a hot mess. You can order to your heart’s content now and the numbers will render properly, even the huge ones.
And because everything can’t be about blocks (or can it?!), we also adjusted the weekday symbols in the calendar depending on your regional settings, and added quick action buttons to the Site Details to take you straight to the most frequently used parts of a site.
* We’re great at blocks, but we’re not so good at secrets.

- Did you ever try to edit a comment, but your attempt to select text selected text on the wrong line and you thought the world had gone mad? We dealt with that. And while we were poking around in comments, we fixed another bug that caused HTML markup to show up in the published comment, so Oz is now back behind the curtain.
- You can now crop, zoom in/out, and rotate images in posts. Try not to let the power go to your head.
- There’s a new Desktop preview mode on iPhone, and Mobile preview on iPad, so you’ll know what your posts or pages will look like no matter where you’re editing. Preview also has some new navigation, “Open in Safari,” and Share options.
- The Block editor is growing up so fast! Now it’s got a new long-press icon for inserting blocks before/after, an “Edit” button overlay on selected image blocks, and it automatically tries to reload images after a connectivity disruption. The Gallery block also got support for image size options.
- Signup and login via magic link now support multiple email clients. Tapping the “Open Email” button will give you a list of installed email clients to choose from. The person with the most email clients installed gets to feel superior to the rest of us.
- Sometimes previewing a post would disable comments on the draft and subsequently on your published post, which inadvertently squashed the discourse, which the discourse did not deserve. We also addressed a Reader issue where new comments failed to appear. Bugs: fixed.
- Last but not least, the Reader got post reblogging capability: You can reblog a post from the Reader to your own site(s) via the “reblog” button in the post action bar. Tap it to choose which site to post to and open the editor of your choice with pre-populated content from the original post.
